Learn to read with Pip.

Bookaroo takes children ages 4 to 8 from letter sounds to reading their first little sentences, in about 15 minutes a day.

Coming soon to iPhone, iPad and Android

The Reading Den path

30 short lessons in 5 units. Lessons unlock in order, so each one only uses sounds your child already knows.

  1. First Sounds

    s, a, t, p, i, n

  2. More Sounds

    m, d, g, o, c, k

  3. Blending

    Pushing sounds together into words

  4. First Words

Real words like cat, dog and map

  5. Little Sentences

Heart words and sentences like “The cat sat.”

Inside a lesson

Pip guides every step out loud, with captions on screen and a button to hear it again.

Meet the sound

Pip introduces a letter, and a mouth coach shows how lips, teeth and tongue make it.

Say it out loud

Your child says sounds, words and sentences. The app listens on the device and coaches gently.

Tap and blend

Pick the letter you hear, then tap letters to build a word.

Never stuck

If a sound is tricky, Pip shows the letter to fix and says it again, then moves on after a few tries.

Meet Pip

Pip the bookworm is your child's reading buddy and the voice of the whole app. She cheers on effort, not just right answers.

  • Her own voice. Every line is recorded ahead of time, so narration works offline and sounds warm, not robotic.
  • Says your child's name. Pip greets each reader by name, and you can tell her how to say it.
  • Dress-up. Kids pick Pip's color, mood and outfit, and new outfits unlock as lessons are finished.

Privacy in plain words

  • No ads and no tracking, and we never sell children's information.
  • Progress, drawings and settings stay on your device.
  • Speech is checked on the device. What your child says is not recorded or uploaded.
  • So Pip can say your child's name, Bookaroo sends just that first name once to make the greeting. You can use a nickname or skip names entirely.
